We cross the border with Lithuania and drive to Palanga. Here we are initially faced with a problem: parking for a fee. We don't have any litas yet. However, to get to the ATM we have to park first.
There is even a very large parking lot (S. Dariaus ir S. Girėno gatvė 32), but an event is taking place today. We finally find a free parking space and make sure that there isn't a sign somewhere. Lucky!
(S. Dariaus ir S. Girėno g. 12)
Our destination is the city center. To do this, we go along the street Vytauto gatve. First we pass a sculpture park.
The J. Basanavičiaus gatve is a tourist mile with many stalls and snack bars. It leads to the jetty. Part of the bridge was torn away by strong storms. In 1997 it was rebuilt with a length of 470m. (Before 630m).
Through the park we go back to the Womo and drive to Klaipeda. From there it goes by ferry to the Curonian Spit. Ferry 112 LTL. for round trip. On the peninsula (national park) you have to pay 70 LTL entry.
We drive to the southern end of Lithuania - beyond that is the border with Kaliningrad. The road offers a lot of nature and little variety. The only one is in Nidacampsiteon the spit. I have serious concerns about whether anything is free at all.
But we're lucky. We are even allowed to choose a place, but only in a limited area. Most of the places are without shade, but we can find a nice spot under the trees. Campsite 105 LTL. This leaves exactly 13 LTL left.
