Norröna / drive home

Norröna / Heimfahrt

We are on time at the port. Inger and Kjell stand behind us and we use the long waiting time to chat a little more. In addition, the other Womos are of course examined again. The most beautiful is this:
After an endless wait, everyone, except the drivers, is "allowed" to walk to the terminal again. There it says again: wait! We see the cars drive onto the ferry, but here at the terminal there is no forward movement.

Finally the time has come. Each boarding pass is scanned individually. Then we stand on the ship. I go to the reception, which we had identified as the meeting point. Reinhard is not there. It's strange because I saw him ride on the ferry and that was a while ago. I decide to get rid of the luggage first as it is getting difficult. After stowing it in the cabin, I go to reception again. He's still not there. At some point he'll come. He explains that the cars got on the ferry quickly, but then there was chaos.

This time we even have a 4-bed cabin to ourselves. Reinhard is now getting rid of his luggage and we go on deck to say goodbye to Iceland. However, we can't see much. Iceland dismisses us with the same weather as it received us. The fog is thick soup.

It was announced over the loudspeaker yesterday that passengers who leave the ship at the Faroe Islands will have to watch out for their arrival there themselves. Since the ferry docks there in the middle of the night, there is no announcement over loudspeakers in the cabins.

I wake up at around 3 a.m. because the ship is jerky. Did the captain land on an Icelandic runway? No, the engines are throttled and the ship docks. Those who have not yet woken up from it will now do so through a loudspeaker announcement. One of the passengers must have overslept.

Still, we're up early in the morning. After breakfast we go to the free shop. We sniff our way through the perfume scents until I have to stop because I'm slowly getting nauseous from the many smells. Otherwise we spend the day doing nothing.

The ferry docks in Hirtshals with a delay. We have been waiting for our motorhome for a long time. But even after you put it on, nothing happens. Somebody starts their engine but is told by a motorcyclist to turn it off again. Approx. 1 hour after mooring, our deck is moving. The first are allowed to leave the ferry. The first row has to come out backwards. We have enough space to turn and can leave the ferry forwards. One last wave to Inger and Kjell and we have asphalt under the tires again.

We come quickly through Denmark to be stuck in traffic just before Hamburg. To make matters worse, there is now a storm. It's storming and the rain is lashing horizontally on our side windows. We decide to call it a day and drive to the next campsite.

Today it should be 37 ° C in Hamburg. We get up early to get as little of the heat as possible.

We get to Wuppertal and are then "just outside the front door" in a traffic jam. I had already announced us there. We arrive home 1/2 hour late and I'm happy to be back after 4 weeks.

It was a great, impressive vacation!
