From Perlan we drive a short distance north on the ring road. Then we turn right onto 36. At the lake, a small cul-de-sac leads to Almannagjá, a crevice that was created when the tectonic plates drifted apart. Lake Þingvallavatn has also undergone some changes due to earth movements and volcanic eruptions.
There is a small parking lot, but it is completely overcrowded. Probably because today is Sunday. We park our mobile home on the side of the road, like the others.
There is an information center at the car park. There is information about the area.
We drive north on 36, then switch to 52 and later to 50. Where the 518 branches off, we continue a few meters on 50 and the next left. Here we are at Deildartunghuver. Here the 100 ° C hot water just gushes out of the ground. It is piped to Akranes and Borgarnes.
It goes back a little bit, to the junction of the 518. Along there it goes to Husafell. Shortly before the goal, the Hraunfossar and Barnafoss waterfalls could be seen. However, we miss the junction. But we don't turn around, because we will come back to this point tomorrow and there will still be an opportunity to visit.
The campsite is big and we're looking for a nice spot. Unfortunately, hiking here isn't great either. The waterfalls can only be reached by road or through a mountain range. We walk a bit along the road, but it's really not fun.
We decide to stroll around the campsite. The path leads across the square, past tents and mobile homes. We continue along the path and see that there is a summer house settlement here. The houses are hidden from view and far apart. At the end of the trail there is a runway for small planes.
The campsite also has a heated outdoor pool and even a golf course.
Today the weather has shown itself from a nicer side. It hasn't rained all day and it's even warm. So, take the opportunity and grill out!
