Jena

13.10.10 In Jena suchten wir abermals einen Campingplatz auf, da es Stellplatzmäßig schlecht aussah. Von dort aus mit den Rädern in die Stadt zu kommen war aber überhaupt kein Problem. (Für die Leute ohne Rad - es gibt auch eine Straßenbahn dorthin).

We set our bikes in motion and drove into town.

First we went to the marketplace. We got a city map from the local tourist information office. We left the bikes here and set off on foot to explore the city. We already had the first goal in mind - that town hall(1368) and that City Museum "Alte Göhre"stood directly on the market.

In the Grietgasse a house with an interesting wall painting could be visited. At the JenTowerwe slept somehow. You can go up to a viewing platform and see the city from above. Don't ask me how we missed it.

That's right next to the Jentower Johannistor(1304), a former city gate. And a little further it went into that Wagnergasse. It is riddled with bars and restaurants. The prices were affordable, but unfortunately there was no meal time yet :-)

Next night we looked for the one that was covered with glass and that was super modern Goethe Galleryon. In addition to the shops, the Carl Zeiss sculpture could be seen here.

Zurück auf dem Campingplatz frage ich nach einem Restaurant. Uns wurde eines in der Nähe empfohlen. (Leider weiß ich den Namen nicht mehr. Es gehörte zu einem Gartenverein). Die Bedienung war wieder superfreundlich, das Essen war lecker und preiswert. Der Koch (Wirt?) kam selbst zu uns an den Tisch und fragte, ob es geschmeckt habe. Es hat! Und diesmal waren die Portionen so groß, dass wir sie nicht schafften. (Man kann es uns aber auch nicht recht machen :-))

Jena wäre sicherlich noch einen 2. Tag wert gewesen. Es gab noch so viel zu sehen. Aber wir wollten unbedingt am nächsten Tag nach Weimar. Das hatte schon auf unserer letzten Herbstreise auf dem Plan gestanden, die wir dann leider vorzeitig abbrechen mussten.
