Luzern / Lake Maggiore

Our journey goes to Lucerne on the first day. There we went to the campsite by the swimming pool. The city can be reached on foot - always along Lake Lucerne. On the way, a friendly "grüezi mitenand" is called out to us.

Lucerne has a lot to offer in terms of sights, but since it was late in the evening, we limited ourselves to part of the old town and the Chapel Bridge. It is the oldest wooden bridge in Europe (built in 1365). In 1993 a large part of it was destroyed by fire, but could be rebuilt. Right next to it is the water tower (built in 1300), which was previously used as a dungeon, among other things.
We set out early so that the traffic jam at the Gotthard tunnel wasn't too big. We were lucky, we didn't have to wait too long. I'm not entirely sure which I find worse - endless tunnels or high bridges. (A bridge is not a problem with a car, but in a motorhome you sit higher than the bridge railings are).

We saw the first snow on the mountain peaks and headed for Lake Maggiore.

We continued along the east side of the lake to Laveno-Mombello and took the ferry across to the west side.
First we drove to Verbania and looked at the "Giardini Botanici di Villa Taranto". The botanical garden turned out to be more of a park, but it was definitely worth seeing. At € 9.00 for adults and € 5.50 for kids, it's not exactly cheap either. Website to the garden.
After several desperate attempts to find a campsite on the west coast of Lake Maggiore that still had a space available, we gave up in exasperation.
